My first days in Buenos Aires

Today I went to the botanical gardens and Palermo. The other gardens were closed because of the New Year. Most shops were closed as well. This made me think of the song 'such a perfect day'. On the previous days it was a hectic and crowded city. Today it was quiet and easygoing.
I had a chat with a guy in the park in my very limited spanish. This made me quite proud of myself. This was imidiately undone when he tried to give me a kiss on the cheak and wish me a good New Year for good bye and I took three steps backward and almost hit him. There is also something as being to cautious. Buenos Aires in general is much safer than I imagined it to be.
Yesterday I went to La Boca. La Boca means the mouth. It is the mouth of the river and place where most Spanish and Italian immigants first set foot in Buenos Aires. It is also one of the poorest areas in BA. It has crazy collored houses which are made from ship wracks. The river La Boca is next to is, according to the guide, the third most polluted in the world. Maybe interesting for RUAS? I also went to Puerto Madero, contoversial area for the new rich built on a garbage belt. Recoletta and the semetary where Evita is burried. The big mettal UN flower that supposedly opens and closes with the sun. I did not go back to see it closed ;-) Av de Mayo runs parallel to the hostel I am staying at. And close to the obelisk. So I have ticked most of the boxes of the tourist attractions. I have a few more days left just to hang around. Tonight we have a New Year dinner and party at the rooftop bar. So I wish you an early but great 2017! X
